This report presents the main findings from the major global research project, Development on the Move: Measuring and Optimising Migration’s Economic and Social Impacts, carried out between 2006 and 2010 by the Global Development Network (GDN) and the Institute for Public Policy Research (ippr). This ground-breaking project has examined a wide range of migration’s impacts on development, by conducting primary research in seven countries, across six continents.

The project aimed to develop better methodologies for assessing migration’s impacts; improve the evidence base; analyse policy impacts and options; build research capacity on migration, and promote multi-disciplinary analysis. In doing so it contributes to answering the question as to whether, on balance, migration helps or hinders international development.

The findings provide fresh and thought-provoking insights for policymakers and researchers alike.
