PwC and ippr research reveals challenges in converting public appetite for participation in public service design and delivery into action

As parties argue over the balance between the ‘big state’ and the ‘big society’, a new report by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and ippr – ‘Capable Communities’ - shows that the public strongly supports the idea of individuals and communities playing a major role in public service design and delivery, but think the state should continue to be the main provider of services.

In the week when a major government-commissioned study on inequality is published, a report by the leading independent think tank the Institute for Public Policy Research argues that the current approach to tackling the issue is out of date, alienates many people and is often counterproductive.
Global Climate Network launches drive for low-carbon economy in South Africa

A network of nine independent think tanks in high emitting countries, including in BASIC countries, is launching a new initiative Wednesday aimed at providing analysis for a low-carbon economy. IMBEWU, a Johannesburg-based sustainability legal specialist and the South African member of the Global Climate Network (GCN) is hosting the launch.

In his first speech since leaving his job as Chief Executive at Channel Four, Andy Duncan will tell the Oxford Media Convention, organised in partnership by the leading think tank the Institute for Public Policy Research (ippr) and Media Guardian, that the UK’s creative industries could go backwards, despite economic recovery, unless they work together to face future challenges.
Recession leaves almost half young black people unemployed, finds ippr

Ahead of Office for National Statistics jobless figures to be published today (Wednesday), new analysis from the Institute for Public Policy Research (ippr) shows that almost half (48%) of Black people aged between 16-24 are now unemployed – compared to the rate of unemployment among white young people which stands at 20%.

The Government must take urgent steps to help people struggling to pay heating bills, as current efforts to tackle fuel poverty are not working, argues the leading think tank the Institute for Public Policy Research (ippr). The cold weather conditions seen in the UK over the past few weeks have highlighted the urgent need for the Government to commission an independent review of its emergency measures to help people cope with peaks of cold weather and its longer-term strategy to address fuel poverty to reduce rising winter death rates in future.
US Stimulus Money to provide training for thousands of low-carbon jobs in deprived communities

Survey of community action on poverty, jobs and the environment
