Introduction

ippr north aspires to help make a better society. Making this a reality means converting new political ideas into workable policy solutions. Our work is value-based and ambitious, but also realistic, rigorous and evidence based, using a wide range of research methods. We aim to change the climate of ideas within which politics is conducted as well as the content of policy itself.

ippr north has a broad research remit, addressing issues specific to northern regions as well as the impact of national policy on northern England. Wherever possible our projects cut across traditional boundaries, addressing problems from a different perspective in order to generate innovative policy ideas.

We have an inclusive style of research which draws on the expertise and insights of academics, practitioners and members of the public. By providing a forum within which different stakeholders can come together to address shared concerns we seek to map out new ways of addressing shared concerns.

All ippr research is subject to a rigorous review and quality control process which aims to ensure that all the work we do meets the highest possible standards of rigour, readability and relevance to the public debate.

You can find out about our projects by clicking on the policy areas listed on the left or by clicking on current research above. We also run a series of Working Papers, addressing numerous issues on an ad hoc basis.
