Oxford Media Convention 2006: webcast available
19 January 2006 -A webcast from this event can be seen at http://webcast.oii.ox.ac.uk/
The 2006 Oxford Media Convention in association with MediaGuardian and PCMLP, Oxford University focused on the role of public service broadcasting and media regulation in a digital age, when emerging technologies are muddying the distinction between broadcasting and other forms of communication.
Convergence, which has been talked about for so long, is finally upon us, as the internet and mobile phones are gradually becoming viable platforms for consuming and sharing all forms of content. It is not at all clear what the role of the BBC should be in this environment, nor what model of competition policy-makers should be pursuing.
The 2006 Oxford Media Convention addressed these challenges to ask where Government can and should intervene, to uphold the public interest.
